This Privacy Policy explains how TypeExpense (“TypeExpense”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the TypeExpense mobile app and website (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.

The short version: We use your information only to provide TypeExpense to you and the family you share it with. We do not sell your data, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not show ads.

1. Who we are

TypeExpense is an expense-tracking service that lets you record expenses and income by typing in natural language. For questions about this policy or your data, contact us at [email protected].

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the Service:

Account information

  • Your name and email address, used to create and secure your account.
  • Authentication data managed by our sign-in system, including session credentials. If you choose “Sign in with Google,” Google shares basic profile information (such as your name and email) with us.

Financial information you enter

  • The transactions, amounts, categories, descriptions, currency, and time zone you record, and the “family” (shared workspace) they belong to.
  • The natural-language messages you submit to the AI entry feature so they can be turned into transactions.

Technical and device information

  • Device tokens you provide so we can send you notifications (if you enable them).
  • Basic technical and log data — such as request identifiers and error details — generated when the app communicates with our servers, used to keep the Service reliable and secure.

3. How we use your information

We use the information above only to:

  • Provide, maintain, and operate the Service for you and your family members.
  • Process your AI entry messages into structured transactions.
  • Keep your account secure and prevent abuse.
  • Diagnose problems, fix bugs, and improve reliability.
  • Respond to your requests and support messages.

We do not use your financial data for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell it.

4. AI processing

When you use AI entry, the message you type is sent to a third-party AI provider (currently OpenRouter and the model it routes your request to) solely to parse it into a transaction. We send the minimum context needed (such as your currency, time zone, local date, and your category names) to make the result accurate. We do not send your message for any purpose other than producing your transaction.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with service providers that help us run TypeExpense, and only as needed to provide the Service:

  • Hosting and database providers that store your account and transaction data on our behalf.
  • OpenRouter, our AI processing provider, for the AI entry feature described above.
  • Google, for optional Google sign-in and for delivering push notifications.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or in connection with a business transfer — in which case we will continue to protect your data under terms consistent with this policy.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete your personal and financial data, except where we must retain limited information to comply with legal obligations or to resolve disputes. Residual copies may persist in routine backups for a limited period before being overwritten.

7. Your rights and choices

  • Access and correction: You can view and edit your transactions, categories, and settings directly in the app.
  • Deletion: You can delete your account and associated data at any time. See Delete your account.
  • Notifications: You can turn off push notifications from your device settings.

8. Account and data deletion

To delete your account and data, email [email protected] from the email address registered to your account. Full instructions are on the Delete your account page.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and hashed credentials. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your data and to respond promptly to any issues.

10. Children's privacy

TypeExpense is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and significant changes may be communicated in the app or by email.

12. Governing law

This policy and your use of the Service are governed by the laws of Bangladesh, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
